President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians living overseas to lend their skills and resources to national development, warning that the country’s progress depends on joint responsibility between government and citizens.
The President made this call on Thursday in Yokohama, Japan, while meeting Nigerians on the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
Diaspora Engagement and Achievements
Tinubu told the gathering that his administration has introduced reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and strengthening Nigeria’s global standing.
He stated:
“I am happy to listen to you. I’m happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some people might decide to stay away; it’s a fundamental right of the individual, but for the economic growth and opportunity available in Nigeria, don’t stay away. Your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?”
The President explained that leadership requires both “thinking and doing,” and he reiterated his determination to make Nigeria conducive for all citizens.
He also noted improvements in passport issuance and health infrastructure as part of his government’s progress.
