President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Nigeria’s new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite in the position.
The nomination was formally communicated to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite has been reassigned to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This will be her third ministerial role under the current administration.
Before his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. The committee was set up to review and improve Nigeria’s tax system, with the aim of strengthening revenue generation and supporting economic reforms in Africa’s most populous country.
Oyedele, who is 50 years old, is from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria. He is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert with both academic and professional experience.
He earned a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology in Lagos. He later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom. He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining the global professional services firm in 2001. During his time there, he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
In addition to his corporate work, he serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and as a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.
If the Senate confirms his nomination, Oyedele will join the Federal Executive Council and help oversee Nigeria’s fiscal and financial policies alongside the Minister of Finance.
