Fresh controversy has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a Nigerian political party, after two public figures said they were listed as nominees for an ADC committee without being consulted.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Yemi (@_yemia) said she would not engage privately after what she described as a “gross oversight”, adding that she was responding publicly because she did not receive “the courtesy of a call to apologise”.
She wrote: “No, I’m not interested in serving on a Committee where a simple vetting process is complicated & no one is taking responsibility for the error.” She ended the post with: “Blessings!”
In a separate post the same evening, Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) also questioned how her name appeared on the list, saying she was surprised to see it.
She wrote: “I was surprised to see my name too. While it’s been claimed that not all on the list are ADC members, the consent of nominees should have been sought before their names were published.” She added the hashtags #Credibility and #GoodGovernance.
The comments have intensified questions on social media about the process used to compile and publish the nominees list, with critics arguing that publicising names without prior consent undermines internal accountability and public confidence.
As of Wednesday night, the ADC had not issued a public response in the posts shared by the nominees.
