The crisis currently besetting the Labour Party has taken a different dimension with the latest blow to their chances at the poll coming from Osun State as the party’s ex-gubernatorial candidate, Lasan Yusuf on Wednesday abandoned the party to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Yusuf is known to be the right-hand man of LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi in Osun State, and with the his defection to the opposition party, it portends a major blow to their chances of sweeping the South West state, made worse by their tenuous hold of other states in the region.
The ex-deputy speaker was received into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a presidential rally in Osun on Wednesday, has declared his support for Atiku Abubakar.
Governor Ademola Adeleke made the announcement of Lasun’s defection to the PDP while speaking at the campaign rally in Osogbo, the state capital.
The campaign rally was attended by PDP bigwigs including the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, the party’s national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and the PDP Presidential Campaign Council chairman, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State
