Governors of Oyo and Rivers States, Engr. Seyi Makinde and Nyesom Wike, have assured President-Elect Bola Tinubu of their support as he prepares to take office as the next president of the country.
Makinde and Wike who belong to the opposition PDP gave the assurance when they visited Tinubu on Friday in Abuja to congratulate him on his imminent emergence and reiterate their commitment to his success through a collaborative approach hinged on collective national progress.
Speaking to the press during the visit, Makinde acknowledged the end of the electoral season, which may be divisive, and a new shift to governance in which all Nigerians, regardless of partisan affiliations must unite behind the incoming administration to ensure its success.
“I am here to pay homage to Nigeria’s next leader. Elections are over and it’s time for governance. I have assured him of our continuous support to ensure that he succeeds in the new task,” he said.
On his part, Nyesom Wike expressed confidence in the capacity of the President-Elect to meet his promises to Nigerians and turn the country around.
He said, “I am very confident that the President-Elect will turn the country around. I have that confidence because of his abilities as a leader. The elections have come and gone. It’s time for Nigerians to come together.”
Tinubu’s electoral victory saw him win the majority of votes in both Oyo and Rivers despite being controlled by the PDP. His victory in those states, and several other strongholds of the opposition, is widely adjudged to attest to his national, cross-party appeal and popularity.
