The Spokesperson of the Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi has accused the Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi of failing to account for more than $15 million donations that came from supporters of the Labour Party from Nigerians in diaspora during the 2023 general election season.
While speaking on an Arise TV programme monitored by our reporter, Arabambi pointed out that the said $15 million was lodged in Fidelity bank (a bank where Mr. Peter Obi has substantial stake in and served as Chairman). He called on the Labour Party leader and former presidential candidate to come out clean and account for the funds, stating that these funds belong to Labour Party and not to Mr. Peter Obi and his team.
The Labour Party Spokesperson went further to accuse Mr. Peter Obi of double standards and hypocrisy. According to Arabambi, Mr. Peter Obi has not been flying private jets before now but today he goes about with private jet. He also said that people now carry Obi’s bag as he travels, which is in stark contrast of what was obtainable during the presidential election campaigns where Peter Obi was always seen carrying his bag.
Dr. Abayomi Arabambi queried Obi to state where he now got money to be flying private jets after accusing others of doing the same. He however added that if Mr. Peter Obi and others are desirous of abating the crisis in Labour Party, they all need to sit down and discuss.
The Labour Party factional Spokesperson also accused former Acting Director of Legal Services in INEC, Toyin Babalola of demanding a bribe of $150,000 before she could get INEC to comply with a valid court order that was in favour of the Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party.
The crisis rocking the Labour Party has been intensifying in recent weeks with many fronts opening in the crisis even within the Abure faction of the party. The recent fall-out between the National Treasurer of the party in the Abure faction and Julius Abure himself over allegations of misappropriation of N3.5 billion party funds is just one out of the other fires raging within the Labour Party.
