The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reacted to news report emanating from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) projecting that the petrol from the refinery would be sold at N600 per litre. In a brief statement, the Dangote Refinery said that it has not fixed its petrol price.
The Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, said that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not its business partner yet and they are not authorised to speak for Dangote Refinery.
“We have never discussed price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with hidden transcript,” Chiejina said.
Mr. Anthony Chiejina cautioned against the public resulting to speculative announcements about the activities or commercial decisions of the refinery, emphasising that the company has official channels through which it disseminates information to its stakeholders.
Ahead of the highly anticipated commencement of PMS supply to marketers from the Dangote Refinery this August, discussions have centered around the pricing of Dangote petrol when it floods the Nigerian market.
Dangote Refinery months ago commenced production of diesel (AGO) and aviation fuel. It crashed the price of diesel to N1000 per liter and has since further reduced its diesel price to N940 per liter while it sells its aviation fuel for N980 per litre. In recent times, Dangote Refinery has been involved in a running battle with the upstream regulator NUPRC and IOCs over supply of crude oil cargoes to the refinery.
The President had recently approved the sale of Nigerian crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in Naira as part of efforts to resolve the impasse and also guarantee price stability of petroleum products in the country as Nigeria moves towards local self-sufficiency in petroleum products.
