In a historic diplomatic moment, United States President Donald Trump on Monday welcomed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to the White House, marking the first time a Syrian leader has visited the official residence and seat of power in Washington, D.C.
According to reports shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Instablog9ja, the meeting between President Trump and Al-Sharaa was held privately behind closed doors, with no journalists or media allowed to cover the proceedings.
“President Trump on Monday held a private meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House — the first-ever visit by a Syrian leader to the US seat of power,” the post stated.
The post further revealed that the Syrian leader, who was once the head of the US-designated terrorist organization al-Qaeda, had a $10 million bounty on his head before his removal from the wanted list in December 2024.
Although details of their discussions have not been disclosed, the meeting is being viewed as a major shift in US-Syrian relations, signaling a potential thaw after decades of strained ties.
Observers around the world are now closely watching what the meeting could mean for future cooperation between Washington and Damascus, especially given Al-Sharaa’s controversial past and his dramatic transformation from a militant leader to the head of state.
