A popular supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Akin Olaoye has expressed his great disappointment towards Mr. Peter Obi for his deliberate omission to celebrate the revered Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (the Ọjájá II) CFR, who turned 50 three days ago.
In a post on his X handle @akintollgate directed at Mr. Peter Obi, the disgruntled Yoruba Obidient said:
“An obvious omission is the absence of a 50th birthday greeting to his Majesty the Ooni of Ife, from one I admire and supported greatly in the 2023 elections – Peter Obi.”
“Sir, I hoped a birthday greeting was in your draft messages as of this morning or perhaps a planned visit may still be underway. I will be gracious to offer that benefit of the doubt.
“However, after reading a needless follow up post this morning, reiterating your position on the birthday greeting you offered to Gowon, I will publicly state that I am very disappointed.
“As No. 1 monarch in Yorubaland and co-head of the traditional ruler’s council of Nigeria, such a milestone is one that goes un-noticed and this is an aberration”, Mr. Akin Olaoye remarked.
He pointed out that his post berating Mr. Peter Obi for the deliberate snub was not an emotional tweet, rather he is just stating a very glaring gap that according to him, cannot be ignored.
This is not the first time Mr. Peter Obi has been accused of selecting prominent Nigerians including traditional rulers he wants to extend birthday greetings to. On several occasions, it takes pressure and mockery from his opposing supporters for Mr. Peter Obi to correct some of his obvious snubs.
Surprisingly, Obi does not footdrag when it comes to individuals from certain parts of the country or those sympathetic to his presidential ambition.
