Former US President, Donald Trump is on the cusp of completing one of the most remarkable comebacks in presidential history as he edges close to achieving the 270 electoral college votes that he needs to return as President.
Heading into the US presidential election, polls suggested it was going to be a close race to call, however as exit polls have now shown, Donald Trump is set to win the race to return to the White House.
A breakdown of the electoral map shows that Trump has been projected to win Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia, the first three of the seven battleground states that was billed to swing the election. Trump is also leading in the other four swing states of Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and Nevada. Trump is expected to clear all the swing states.
From the electoral map, the Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump is most likely to garner 312 electoral college votes from 32 states while his Democratic Party challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris would likely finish with 225 electoral college votes. The US has 538 electoral college votes. A winning presidential candidate needs to reach 270 votes to become president.
Donald Trump achieved these remarkable victories on the back of a strong performance in traditional rural areas while the Democrats did well as usual in the urban areas.
In a sign of the mood in the Kamala Harris camp, her Campaign Organisation has cancelled the election victory party scheduled to hold on Wednesday night. Instead they have announced that Kamala Harris would be addressing her supporters later on Wednesday (today). It is likely that she would concede defeat at the event.
