A coordinated military operation by troops from the 22 Armoured Brigade, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara State, resulted in the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers and the rescue of two victims on Saturday.
The operation, which was carried out following reliable intelligence, focused on a hideout situated on the outskirts of Latandaji Village in Patigi Local Government Area. Lt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Brigade, confirmed in a statement that, “Acting on credible intelligence, troops launched a tactical operation on Saturday, 21 June 2025, targeting a hideout on the outskirts of Latandaji Village, Patigi Local Government Area.”
Despite facing mild resistance from the suspects, the troops quickly gained control of the situation. “During the engagement, troops encountered mild resistance but swiftly subdued the criminals with superior firepower,” Lt. Nwankwo said.
The operation resulted in the rescue of Mr. Amos Moses and Mr. Philip Michael, who had been held captive, and the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers. One individual, Mr. Mohammed Mohammed, suffered gunshot wounds during the confrontation and was taken to Bachita Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
In addition to the arrests, the military recovered two motorcycles and two expended cartridge shells believed to have been used by the suspects. The arrested individuals are currently being held in military custody for further investigation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
The military assured the public of its ongoing efforts to eradicate criminal activities and ensure peace and security in Kwara State.
