President Bola Tinubu has joined in celebrating the 55th birthday of Dr. Awele Elumelu, Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, commending her extensive contributions to healthcare and philanthropy. The President’s message, conveyed through Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, described Dr. Elumelu as “a distinguished physician, devoted mother and wife, philanthropist, and entrepreneur.”
He praised her for her dedication to improving lives and empowering vulnerable populations, stating, “The President commends Dr Elumelu for her outstanding achievements and numerous recognitions, highlighting her lifelong commitment to saving lives and empowering women and children.”
Dr. Elumelu’s leadership in Avon Healthcare Limited and as Founder/CEO of Avon Medical Practice has been instrumental in expanding access to quality healthcare services across Nigeria and Africa, with a focus on underserved communities.
President Tinubu also recalled her role as a Private Sector Champion for Immunisation in Africa with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in 2018, where she helped reach over 10 million unimmunised children, showcasing her vital contribution to public health on the continent.
Her commitment to health extends beyond medicine; her active participation in marathons locally and internationally has inspired many Nigerians to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Furthermore, her philanthropic work as a Director on the Board of Heirs Holdings and Trustee of The Tony Elumelu Foundation has empowered countless Nigerians by equipping them with entrepreneurial skills and opportunities.
