In a public letter of appreciation, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its visionary leadership in addressing Nigeria’s persistent flood problems and infrastructure deficits. Dangote’s letter highlights the Bar Beach Land Reclamation project, also known as Eko Atlantic City, as a flagship example of the administration’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
The project, spanning 1,000 hectares and protected by a substantial sea wall, has provided a new urban landscape that protects Victoria Island from ocean surges and coastal erosion. Dangote emphasized the project’s multifunctional use for residential, commercial, and recreational purposes, crediting it as one of Tinubu’s enduring legacies.
Referencing the recent catastrophic floods in Kerr County, Texas, which resulted in over 100 deaths, Dangote underscored the importance of Tinubu’s flood mitigation efforts in Lagos. He praised the President’s “foresightedness” in implementing measures that have reduced flooding in critical areas such as Akin Adesola Street and Adetokunbo Ademola Street.
Beyond flood control, Dangote applauded the revival of major infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, the latter described as the resurrection of a 48-year-old initiative. Both projects are currently managed by Hitech Construction Company Limited.
Drawing inspiration from Dutch land reclamation successes in Zeeland, Dangote highlighted the shared values of innovation and perseverance in managing water resources. He saluted Tinubu for embodying these principles in Nigeria’s efforts.
Dangote Industries Limited also extended condolences to families affected by the Texas floods and announced plans by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to contribute to a Climate Fund targeting vulnerable Nigerian communities.
