In a significant move to enhance technical expertise and economic prospects in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has commended the National Automotive Design and Development Council’s (NADDC) specialized training program for local technicians. The five-day mechatronics training, held in Ado Ekiti, focused on equipping participants with the skills to maintain and repair both CNG and petrol-powered tricycles and motorcycles.
Represented by the Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Kayode Fasae, the governor described the program as a milestone in the state’s commitment to fostering skills development and environmental sustainability. He noted that motorcycles and tricycles are vital to the livelihoods of many families, serving as essential tools for transportation and economic activity.
Oyebanji emphasized that the training would not only improve the technicians’ capabilities but also create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth. “We will continue to collaborate with NADDC to ensure more youths acquire these important technical skills,” he said.
Joseph Osanipin, NADDC’s Director General, pointed out that many mechanics currently lack the necessary expertise and tools to service modern vehicles effectively. The council’s training programs aim to bridge this skills gap and empower technicians with up-to-date knowledge and equipment.
Osanipin reported that over 15,000 technicians have benefited from such initiatives, which also promote entrepreneurship and innovation within the automotive sector. He praised Simba Group Nigeria for their role in facilitating the training.
Sumit Panda, Simba Group’s Regional Manager, assured ongoing support for technician training to keep pace with technological advancements.
The program also included empowerment through tools and cash grants, with beneficiaries encouraged to train others, thereby expanding the program’s reach within the community.
