Four individuals have perished in Kano’s Dawakin Tofa area after drowning in a waterway obstructed by debris related to nearby railway construction activities. The incident was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service, with an official statement issued by Public Relations Officer Saminu Abdullahi.
The call for assistance arrived late Friday afternoon from Rabiu Yusif, who alerted the fire service to a drowning in a localized blocked sewer at Zangon Kaya. Abdullahi recounted that two people had initially entered the water to swim and became stuck. Two additional people tried to aid them but also got trapped.
Rescuers and community members worked to extricate the victims, but all four were found unconscious and later confirmed dead. The deceased have been identified as Bashir Sani, Nasirudden Tasi’u, Usman Ubale, and Yakubu Muhammed.
The bodies were handed over to police authorities for further investigation as the incident highlights the dangers posed by blocked waterways and unsecured construction sites in residential settlements.
