The Progressives Forum (TPF) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing his death as a monumental loss that has left an irreplaceable void in the nation’s history.
The Forum, which was founded in 2014 as the All Progressives Youth Forum and played a pivotal role in the emergence of President Buhari during the 2015 general elections, hailed him as a foundational pillar of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It noted that his leadership, personal integrity, and vision provided the ideological compass upon which the party was built.
“It is with profound grief and a heavy heart that we extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari—a patriot, a statesman, and a leader who devoted his life to the service of our beloved country,” the Forum stated.
“President Buhari was a leader par excellence. After emerging as the party’s flagbearer in 2015, he led the APC to a historic electoral victory, the first time an incumbent president was democratically unseated in Nigeria’s history.”
The Forum noted that President Buhari campaigned on a tripod of revitalising the economy, combating insecurity, and fighting corruption, and that throughout his eight-year tenure, he made significant strides in each of these areas.
“These achievements,” it added, “are now being consolidated and built upon by his successor, friend, and fellow party co-founder, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The Forum also highlighted President Buhari’s legacy in social welfare and infrastructure: “He leaves behind the largest Social Investment Programmes in Africa, landmark infrastructural projects, including roads, schools, and hospitals, as well as a renewed push towards food security through the revival of the agricultural sector.”
The statement further emphasised President Buhari’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity, discipline, and development.
“From his time as a military Head of State to his two-term civilian presidency, President Buhari served with dignity, honour, and a deep sense of national duty. His legacy of principled leadership and public service will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.”
The Forum concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of the late President: “May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest and give his family, loved ones, and the entire nation the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
