The Olakulehin dynasty has announced the forthcoming presentation of a book in memory of the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, turning what was planned as a celebration of life into a moment of remembrance.
Titled “How Not to Be a King”, the book will be launched publicly on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan, by 1:00 p.m.
Originally meant to mark the monarch’s 90th birthday and first year on the throne, the event now serves as part of the post-funeral reception, following Oba Olakulehin’s death on July 7.
Chief Solomon Ayoade, who served as Chief Press Secretary to the late king, issued the formal invitation. The book, he explained, reflects a rich tapestry of the monarch’s legacy, drawn from first-person reflections and tributes by the Olubadan-in-Council, family, friends, and admirers.
“The family has decided to go ahead with the public presentation of the book, ‘How Not to Be a King’, as a way of honouring and immortalising the values and leadership ideals of the late Oba Olakulehin,” Ayoade stated.
Oba Olakulehin was celebrated for bridging tradition with progressive ideals, advocating for unity across Ibadanland, and promoting cultural and educational values.
The book launch is expected to attract high-profile attendees, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, local government officials, and a host of traditional rulers.
The royal family expressed optimism that the event would unite people in celebrating a monarch whose leadership left an indelible mark on Ibadan’s history.
