Tension is growing within the Obidient Movement as some of its members accuse sympathisers of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of infiltrating the group and diverting it from its original purpose.
The controversy began after a social media post by a well-known member identified as @nonconformist1, who alleged that “IPOB apologists and Kanu baby terrorists” had taken control of the movement. His post triggered a heated debate among supporters, with many expressing frustration over what they described as increasing hostility from IPOB loyalists within the group.
Reacting to the post, another member, @NwokeAnambra, said he was shocked by the growing influence of IPOB sympathisers. “Bro, I still can’t believe what I saw yesterday. I’m still shocked that 99% of my mutuals are IPOB supporters,” he wrote.
Reports on social media indicate that several members have been insulted and harassed online for refusing to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB. The situation has sparked renewed debate about the true direction of the Obidient Movement, which was originally built on civic engagement and political reform.
Reports has it that this latest internal conflict follows the resignation of Bolanle Emiabata-Anibaba, co-founder of Parallel Fact, who earlier cited a lack of leadership and transparency within the movement. Analysts believe that the growing division could weaken the group’s influence and unity ahead of future political activities.
Observers have also warned that the ongoing infighting might cause disillusionment among supporters and shift focus from the movement’s political objectives to ethnic and ideological battles. Many members are now calling for the restoration of discipline, respect, and the core values that once united them.
