The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is once again facing internal tension after its National Working Committee (NWC) reportedly removed its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), from a court case aimed at stopping the party’s planned national convention.
The convention, which is set to take place on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, has sparked controversy within the party.
In a letter dated October 13 and addressed to the Federal High Court, the NWC replaced Ajibade with Chris Uche (SAN) as the new legal representative. Party insiders and observers say the move goes against the PDP’s constitution, which gives the National Legal Adviser authority over all legal matters involving the party.
The letter was reportedly signed by Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, along with 13 other members of the NWC.
Some party members have expressed disapproval of the decision, accusing the leadership of ignoring internal rules and due process. One member, reacting to the situation, said, “When the next calamity hits, they’ll blame Wike again.”
This development has deepened existing divisions within the PDP ahead of its crucial convention in November.
