A social media post by a prominent supporter of the Labour Party, Vivian Rora, has sparked wide controversy after online users accused her of sharing misleading photographs to praise the administration of Governor Alex Otti, the current governor of Abia State in South-East Nigeria.
Vivian, posting via her verified handle @VivianRora, claimed that Governor Otti had upgraded the hostels at Abia State University (ABSU) to “international standards” as part of his efforts to improve student welfare. She also highlighted ambitious future plans for the state’s transport system.
In her post, Vivian wrote: “Alex Otti has refurbished the Abia State University hostels to international standards to help students study in comfort. He also announced that before the end of 2025, electric buses, AI-driven traffic lights, and modern multimodal terminals will be introduced in Abia State.”
Shortly after her statement began circulating, users on X (formerly Twitter) alleged that the hostel photos shared by Vivian were not from Abia State University but from Australia, claiming that she misrepresented the images as part of the governor’s achievements. The criticisms quickly spread, with many demanding clarification and accusing her of attempting to “deceive the public.”
The development has further fueled ongoing debates between supporters and critics of the state government, especially regarding the authenticity of claims promoted by political influencers online.
As of the time of reporting, Vivian has not issued a public clarification on the allegations, and the Abia State Government has not released an official statement addressing the authenticity of the hostel photos she referenced.
The controversy continues to trend on Nigerian social media platforms, with users discussing the broader issue of misinformation within political advocacy circles.
