The Adamawa State Government in northeastern Nigeria has announced temporary road closures and called on residents to welcome Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during a one-day working visit to Yola, the state capital, on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The announcement, issued on Sunday, February 15, 2026, was signed by the Adamawa State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Iliya James. He said the measures were to support a smooth and secure visit by the president, who is also Nigeria’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The state listed the routes expected to be affected as Airport to Kofare Road via Galadima Aminu Way and Bank Road, the Jimeta Grade Interchange and Police Roundabout corridor, Justice Buba Ardo Way, Adamawa Sunshine Express to Faro Road, and other connecting roads around the planned movement.
Officials urged residents to come out peacefully to receive the president and advised motorists to use alternative routes while the closures last so that daily activities can continue with minimal disruption.
According to the state government, the visit will feature the inauguration of projects carried out under the administration of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Iliya said President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate a newly constructed underpass at the former Bekaji Roundabout, the expanded Bank Road in Yola, and a model school in Yola North Local Government Area, which is one of 21 recently built schools across Adamawa State.
The schedule also includes a groundbreaking ceremony for a new permanent orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nigeria’s graduate service programme, in Malkohi. The president is expected to commission an ultra-modern High Court Complex, unveil an automated gate at Government House, and inaugurate a newly constructed Governor’s Office complex. Iliya said the projects cut across education, infrastructure, justice administration, governance, security, healthcare, and human capital development.
The Adamawa State Police Command said it has increased security across the state ahead of the visit. Police Commissioner Morris Dankombo directed the deployment of units including the Police Mobile Force, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, the Surveillance Squad, and Crowd and Traffic Control personnel. Police also said covert surveillance operations will be carried out statewide to help ensure a calm and incident-free visit.
