WASHINGTON — Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly criticized Donald Trump, President of the United States, accusing him of pushing the country toward a possible war with Iran amid rising geopolitical tensions.
In a statement shared on Sunday through her X social media account, Harris warned that the United States risked being drawn into what she described as a “regime-change war.” She argued that such a conflict does not have the support of the American public and could endanger U.S. troops while harming the country’s global standing.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris said. She added that members of the U.S. armed forces were being exposed to danger “for the sake of Trump’s war of choice.”
Her comments reflect growing debate within the United States over how to handle tensions with Iran, particularly in relation to Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and regional influence. While Harris acknowledged that Iran represents a security concern and must never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, she insisted that military escalation is not the correct path.
Describing the possible conflict as “a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives,” Harris warned that it could destabilize the Middle East and weaken the United States internationally. She further characterized the administration’s approach as “recklessness dressed up as resolve.”
Harris also challenged Trump’s earlier claims about ending foreign wars and dismantling Iran’s nuclear programme, saying those statements were inaccurate.
Expressing solidarity with U.S. service members deployed in high-risk environments, she said they deserve leadership that handles decisions on war and peace with steadiness and discipline.
The former vice president emphasized that under the United States Constitution, the president must obtain authorization from Congress before taking the country into war. She argued that even with congressional approval, such military action would still be unjustified.
Harris called on lawmakers to exercise their full powers to prevent further escalation, stating that Americans, allied nations, and members of the armed forces “deserve nothing less.”
The dispute adds to ongoing political tensions in Washington and places foreign policy at the center of national debate as the United States navigates a complex and sensitive relationship with Iran.
