ABUJA, Nigeria – A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku, the former acting Accountant-General of the Federation, to 72 years in prison. The court found him guilty of fraud involving ₦868.46 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission confirmed the conviction in a statement posted on the social media platform X on Monday. The agency reported that the court found Nwabuoku guilty of all money laundering charges.
According to the agency, Nwabuoku “has been convicted and sentenced to jail for 72years.”
In a related case previously reported by the media, another Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Robert Orya, the former Managing Director of the Nigeria Export-Import Bank, to 490 years in prison. The court convicted him in a ₦2.4 billion fraud case.
Justice F.E. Messiri delivered the judgment. The anti-corruption agency confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Orya, who headed the bank from 2011 to 2016, received a sentence of 10 years in prison for each of the 49 counts filed against him.
