ISTANBUL, Turkey — Victor Osimhen, the star striker for Galatasaray, arrived back in Istanbul on Sunday night to undergo a decisive medical scan on his injured arm. The Nigerian forward was injured last Wednesday during a Champions League match against Liverpool at Anfield.
Medical professionals will examine the 27-year-old on Monday to see if he needs surgery for a fractured right forearm. The injury happened in the first half of the match after a challenge from Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate. While Osimhen finished the first half, he was replaced at the interval.
Galatasaray released a statement saying: “In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at half-time, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.”
The club further noted that hospital tests confirmed the fracture and a cast was applied. If surgery is necessary, the striker could be out of action for three to five months. This is a major concern for the Turkish league leaders, as Osimhen has scored 19 goals this season. Due to the injury, he will also miss Nigeria’s upcoming friendly matches against Jordan and Iran.
