UN women country representative to Nigeria, Beatrice Eyong, has expressed her strong belief in President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of women’s inclusion in his administration.
Speaking at an award night organized by Women of Worth, alongside former Minister of Women Affairs Pauline Tallen, Eyong referred to the Tinubu’s achievement as governor in Lagos and his public statements that highlighted the integral role women would play in his government.
Eyong affirmed that based on her careful observations and information gathered, Tinubu had unequivocally emphasized the importance of women’s participation in his administration.
“From some of the things I have read about our president, his past work in Lagos and what he has been saying, he has made it clear that women will be an integral part of his government,” she said
“What I will simply say is that Nigeria does not lack competent, experienced and qualified women.
“There are qualified Nigerian women in every sector of the economy.”
On her part, Tallen also shared similar belief with Eyong, expressing optimism that Tinubu will fulfill his 35 per cent of women inclusion in his government.
She, however, urged him to do more, adding that there is nothing wrong if women are given beyond 35 percent, since they constitute about 50 percent of the nation’s population.
She called on Nigerians to make it a point of duty to “lift the hands of a downtrodden woman and put smiles on the faces of the hungry and vulnerable”.
