In a bold move to tackle the housing challenges in Nigeria, the Federal Government has set the wheels in motion for a groundbreaking project known as the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates. This ambitious initiative, unveiled by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, is set to bring a wave of change across 12 states, touching two in each geopolitical zone.
At the heart of this project is the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which is to significantly reduce the housing deficit that has long been a concern for the nation. The plan? To construct a whopping 100,000 housing units that will span the breadth of Nigeria, ensuring that more citizens have access to comfortable and affordable homes.
- “We have already awarded the contract for the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in 12 states nationwide, two states per geo- political zone and contractors have already been mobilized on sites to build a minimum of 250 houses that are affordable and organic in 1,2,3 bedrooms”Dangiwa said.
The journey began with President Tinubu himself laying the foundation for the first phase in the Karsana District, Phase 3, of the Federal Capital Territory. Here, 3,112 housing units are set to rise, contributing to the 50,000 homes planned for the FCT alone. This is a statement of intent, a promise of commitment to the Nigerian people that their dreams of homeownership are within reach.
The government isn’t going at it alone. They’ve joined forces with trusted construction firms, Continental Civil and General Construction Limited and Ceezali Limited, to ensure that these homes are not just built but built to last. Each Renewed Hope City will boast at least 1,000 housing units, creating vibrant communities where families can thrive. And it’s not just about quantity; quality is key, with each estate featuring a mix of 1, 2, and 3-bedroom homes designed to cater to a variety of needs and preferences.
But what makes this program truly special is its inclusive approach. With a cross-subsidy model, the majority of these homes will be sold at market rates, while a significant portion will be offered at reduced rates to those earning lower incomes. This partnership with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress ensures that the benefits of this program reach those who need it most.
As contractors gear up and head to their respective sites, the vision of Renewed Hope Cities and Estates is becoming a reality. With a minimum of 250 sustainable houses planned for each location, the government is not just building homes; they’re building hope. They’re crafting communities where the future looks brighter, where every Nigerian has the opportunity to lay down roots and build a life filled with promise.
This announcement, made during a meeting with the Renewed Hope Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s development story. It’s a narrative of progress, of a government taking decisive action to address the needs of its people. As the construction begins, one can only imagine the joy and pride that will fill the hearts of families as they step into their new homes, a testament to the power of hope and the enduring spirit of the Nigerian people.
