Chaos erupted at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday as police fired teargas to control clashes between rival party factions.
Supporters of the Nyesom Wike-backed group and the newly constituted national working committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Turaki had both scheduled meetings at the Wadata Plaza PDP offices on the same day, sparking tensions.
Samuel Anyanwu, national secretary of the Wike faction, arrived at the headquarters with members of his group ahead of their planned Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
Police struggled to maintain order, at one point asking all party members to leave the premises. When tensions escalated, teargas canisters were deployed to disperse both politicians and journalists.
Outside the building, some supporters were seen carrying cudgels and other objects, intensifying the chaotic scene.
