Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria — A Nigerian pastor widely known for his charity fundraising activities has come under intense scrutiny online after multiple allegations surfaced regarding his handling of donations and an alleged relationship with a member of his church.
The cleric, Kayode Amusan, who is widely recognised by the name Agbala Gabriel, operates his ministry in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State in southwestern Nigeria. Over the years, he built a reputation on social media platforms for organising financial assistance for people facing serious medical conditions and financial hardship.
Videos showing him praying for families and requesting donations for sick individuals frequently circulated online, helping him gain the support of many Nigerians who saw his ministry as a channel for charity.
In recent days, however, that reputation has been challenged by allegations spreading across Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
One of the claims relates to a woman identified as Morenikeji, who reportedly suffers from a spinal condition and whose treatment attracted donations from members of the public.
Nigerian actress Foluke Daramola spoke about the case in a video that circulated widely on social media. She explained that she initially helped raise money for the woman’s surgery but later stepped away from the effort after learning the patient had been taken to the cleric.
She said, “I initially raised money for the woman’s surgery, which wasn’t enough. But as soon as the family took her to Agbala Gabriel’s care, I withdrew.
“Later, I got to know that Gabriel abandoned them and failed to provide the support of a good accommodation and surgery he promised.”
In the same video, the patient’s daughter claimed she eventually removed her mother from the pastor’s care because she was worried about how the case was being managed.
As that controversy gained attention online, another allegation surfaced involving claims that the pastor had a relationship with a woman who once served as a backup singer in his church.
A blogger known as Iyalaje Courtroom made the claim during an online broadcast, alleging that the pastor had been involved in both mismanagement of donations and relationships with women connected to the ministry.
According to the blogger, the woman, identified as Bolu, became pregnant and later gave birth to twins.
“She was about 23 when the relationship started and she is now 25,” the commentator said.
“Agbala Gabriel initially denied the pregnancy, but after pressure, he later accepted responsibility and rented a house for the lady and the twins.”
A charity advocate named Princess Adeyinka also spoke about the issue publicly, saying she personally approached the pastor when the matter first emerged.
She said, “Agbala Gabriel impregnated Bolu and refused to take full responsibility initially. I went to him myself to beg him to take responsibility when I first heard about it, which he denied initially but later took responsibility.”
The allegations quickly spread across social media, prompting heated discussions among supporters and critics of the cleric.
While some people defended him by citing his past charity work and assistance to struggling families, others called for accountability and transparency regarding public donations.
The cleric denied all allegations when contacted, saying the claims were false and part of a broader pattern of accusations frequently directed at well known religious leaders.
He said, “This is how they try to bring ministers of God down. All ministers who became famous faced this kind of lies. We see men of God like Pastor Adeboye, and other famous pastors being dragged on social media every day. This is just how they do on social media, making false allegations.”
The accusations continue to generate debate online, although there has been no official confirmation of investigations or legal proceedings related to the claims.
