A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued a ruling convicting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on three of the seven terrorism allegations filed against him by the Federal Government.
The judgment, delivered on Thursday by the Presiding Judge, James Omotosho, affirmed that the prosecution had presented evidence that directly linked Kanu to acts considered dangerous to the country. The court pointed specifically to video interviews tendered during the trial, in which Kanu was heard making violent threats directed at Nigeria and its citizens. According to the court, these recordings were pivotal in establishing the elements required to secure the conviction.
Judge Omotosho stated that the contents of the submitted videos met the necessary legal standards for the three charges upheld by the court, resulting in Kanu being found guilty on those counts. The remaining allegations are expected to be addressed as proceedings continue.
More details are anticipated as the matter progresses.
