Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has deleted a tweet in which he mocked the PDP administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for only having a ‘drawing’ of the 2nd Niger Bridge to show after six years at the helm.
The tweet gained traction as President Muhammadu Buhari is set to launch the completed bridge later this year, satisfying a need that has long formed the basis of political agitation in Nigeria’s eastern region.
Despite Goodluck Jonathan’s posture as an eastern ally at the time, including through the sudden adoption of the Igbo name ‘Azikiwe’, he failed to commence work on the important link bridge let alone bring it to completion.
Saraki noted this in his criticism of the PDP administration Jonathan led at the time, saying that “after 6 years in office President GEJ only has a drawing of 2nd Niger Bridge to show as his achievement.”
He was mocking Jonathan’s grand inspection of a project chart of the bridge that failed to materialize.
