Four governors on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are working to see that the presidential ambition of the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu comes to reality in the forthcoming polls.
A reliable source confirmed the development to Dailypost that four southern governors with two from the South-east, one from the South-west, and one from the South-south are working for Tinubu’s candidacy.
The source who wants his name undisclosed in print said everything is now about personal interest, adding that while one of the governors is seeking re-election, others are seeking soft-landing.
He said, “It’s now about personal interest. Four governors are working for Asiwaju emergence in 2023.”
It could be recalled that the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had jettisoned the rotation of the presidency by throwing the presidential primary contest open for all regions, despite the fact that the party has its constitution which stated that the presidency should be rotated between the North and South.
The rotation move aborted, however, paved the way for the emergence of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.
Ever since the emergence of Atiku, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who came second behind Atiku at the convention, had been having a running battle with the party’s leadership.
Governor Wike, who was bitter, blamed his loss on religion, betrayal by the party leadership, especially, the National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, whose sudden decision to step down for Atiku, according to him, tilted the presidential primary result against him.
The River State Governor has since been fraternising with Tinubu and some APC Governors which also led to the recent meeting held in London.
A few weeks ago, Wike, Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) – had met in London with Tinubu to consider the possibility of working together.
