Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director General of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), has stated Nigeria is undergoing significant changes under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
D-G Sulaiman stated this in a retreat held in Ilorin titled “Rethinking NILDS For Enhanced Service Delivery,”
He highlighted major shifts, especially in the country’s economy. He also noted the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, made serious efforts towards progress.
Sulaiman asserted for changes to yield true impact, the bond between the executive and legislative government arms needed to intensify.
He cited the retreat’s purpose as a platform for comprehensive review and careful planning for the future.
“For these changes to be impactful and achieve the desired outcomes, the strategic partnership between the executive and legislative arms of government must be deepened,” Sulaiman said during his address.
He reminded the NILDS management staff about the institute’s strategic work plan (2020-2024) designed to bolster the institute’s functioning. Sulaiman underscored the need to uphold democratic principles by delivering exemplary services to the nation’s democratic institutions.
“We must always remember that the products that we offer are for the deepening of democratic values and our clients are the institutions of democracy in Nigeria.
“We must provide good quality products and offer high quality client service,” Sulaiman charged the participants
Prof. Attahiru Jega, Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), supported NILDS’s policy direction in further democratizing Nigeria.
Highlighting the importance of the retreat, Jega shared that it provided an avenue for stakeholders to map out solid plans for the country’s democratic administration.
