The Federal Government has approved an increase of between 25% and 35% salary increase for Civil Servants on six Consolidated Salary Structures.
In a statement signed by the Head of Press, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Emmanuel Njoku, the Salary Structures involved include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS) and Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS).
Others include the Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS) and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
Last year workers in the Tertiary Education Sector which are on Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS) for Universities; the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) for polytechnics and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) for colleges of education received a salary increase from the federal government.
The Health Sector also benefitted through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
This latest increase, the statement noted takes effect from 1st January 2024.
The Federal Government has also approved increases in pension of between 20% and 28% for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme in respect to the above-mentioned six consolidated salary structures with effect from 1st January 2024.
With the minimum wage negotiation between the government, various labour centers and the organised private sector still ongoing, the take-home pay of civil servants is set to further rise significantly when the parties eventually agree on a new minimum wage reflective of the present cost of living.
