The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda Housing Scheme has officially begun in Calabar, Cross River State, following the donation of 25 acres of land by the state government in the Adiabo community. This gesture marks a significant milestone in the government’s effort to provide affordable housing nationwide.
Rt Hon. Victor Udofia, Special Adviser to the President of the Senate and liaison with the Ministry of Housing, visited the Obong of Calabar to express gratitude for the land donation and warm reception. He reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to the project, which aligns with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at delivering sustainable housing solutions.
Udofia praised Governor Sen. Bassey Otu for his prompt approval of the land, which facilitated the swift commencement of the project. He also acknowledged Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong’s instrumental role in bringing the project to Cross River State. “The project is deeply personal to me because Cross River State holds a special place in my heart, having served my NYSC in this State,” he said.
Contractors have been awarded letters of engagement, with mobilization expected within two to three weeks after funds are released. The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, thanked the governor and Senate President for their support.
Alfa Simeon, representing the Minister of Housing, disclosed that eight contractors have been engaged—four for infrastructure and four for residential construction. The initial phase will feature 120 housing units, including one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats, designed to be affordable and expandable.
Simeon stressed the importance of completing Phase One before moving to Phase Two to avoid abandoned projects. Local community leaders expressed optimism and pledged cooperation.
