The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has sounded the alarm on potential weather-related disruptions as thunderstorms and rain are expected to sweep across various states from August 4 through August 6.
According to the bulletin, early Monday will bring moderate rain to several northern states, with thunderstorms expected later in the day across Adamawa, Taraba, and Sokoto.
NiMet emphasized the potential dangers, stating, “There is a high possibility of flood occurring over parts of Adamawa, Taraba and Bauchi states during the forecast period.”
Meanwhile, the central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, will experience lighter rains. However, continued wet conditions throughout the day may worsen road conditions and hamper daily activities.
In the south, light rainfall is forecast in the morning, which will escalate by evening, possibly resulting in floods across Ogun, Edo, and Delta.
The trend is expected to continue into Tuesday and Wednesday. NiMet advised the public to avoid flood-prone areas, remain indoors during thunderstorms, and dress warmly as night temperatures are expected to drop.
It also recommended that aviation operators coordinate with NiMet for accurate airport-specific forecasts to reduce flight delays or cancellations.
