A Lagos court has ordered the remand of Comfort Emmanson at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after she was charged with physically assaulting a cabin crew member aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.
The arraignment followed investigations and evidence collection, including passenger-captured videos showing Emmanson confronting and striking a crew member.
Tunde Moshood, media aide to Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, SAN, confirmed the development on his X handle: “The more reason the flying public should be more careful, the unruly passenger on the Uyo–Lagos bound Ibom Air, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri.”
Court observers note that the remand suggests the charges may be serious enough to warrant significant custodial sentencing if she is found guilty. Under Nigerian law, assault aboard an aircraft is treated as a criminal offence with possible prison terms, especially if it endangers flight safety.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has for months warned passengers to adhere strictly to flight regulations, noting a rise in disruptive conduct. Ibom Air says it will not hesitate to impose flight bans and will support prosecution where necessary.
The next hearing date is expected soon, with prosecutors signalling readiness to present witness testimony and video footage as primary evidence.
