Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the diplomatic postings of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners to represent the country in embassies and international missions around the world.
The decision was announced on Friday, March 6, 2026, in a statement issued by the Presidency of Nigeria and signed by presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga.
The appointments include 31 career diplomats and 34 non career ambassadors, who were confirmed by the Senate of Nigeria in December 2025 before receiving their final assignments.
Ambassadors and high commissioners serve as the official representatives of Nigeria abroad, working to strengthen diplomatic relations, promote economic cooperation, and protect the interests of Nigerian citizens overseas.
Among the non career ambassadors appointed are several former public officials and political figures. They include Senator Grace Bent, who will head Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Lome, Togo, and Senator Ita Enang, who has been posted to South Africa.
Victor Ikpeazu will serve in Spain, while Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu has been assigned to Israel. Mahmud Yakubu will represent Nigeria in Qatar, and Paul Oga Adikwu has been posted to the Vatican City.
Other appointees include former Nigerian Navy officer Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas to the Philippines, Reno Omokri to Mexico, Abasi Braimah to Hungary, and Erelu Angela Adebayo to Portugal.
Further postings include Olumilua Oluwayimika Ayotunwa to Japan, Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi to Greece, Chioma Priscilla Ohakim to Poland, Aminu Dalhatu to the United Kingdom, and Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China.
Additional non career ambassadors will represent Nigeria in countries including Australia, Argentina, the United States, Russia, Germany, Canada, Austria, Sweden, France, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Ireland, Tunisia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s career diplomats have also been assigned to several countries and international missions. These include Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Cote d’Ivoire, Besto Maimuna Ibrahim to Niger, Monica Okwuchukwu Enebechi to Sao Tome and Principe, and Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria.
Other career diplomats have been posted to Egypt, Jamaica, Zambia, Mali, Equatorial Guinea, Lebanon, Italy, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, Senegal, Ghana, Ethiopia, Chad, the Netherlands, Morocco, Malaysia, Tanzania, Botswana, Iran, Kenya, Benin, Belgium, Switzerland, Namibia, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Thailand.
According to the presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria has already received diplomatic approval from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu to serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner in London.
The government of France has also approved the appointment of Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s ambassador to Paris.
The Ministry has sent the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries and requested diplomatic consent in line with international practice.
President Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin an induction programme for all ambassadors designate and high commissioners before they depart for their postings.
