Minister of Works and ex-Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has declared that governors of the South-East zone are solidly behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of 2027.
In a widely circulated Instagram video posted by @peopleofebonyi_, Umahi stressed that none of the region’s governors stand in opposition. “All the governors of the South-East are supporting the president for 2027, and there’s no governor in the South-East that is not supporting the president,” he affirmed.
The Minister explained that governors are the backbone of state politics, citing developments in Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo as examples of alignment with the ruling government.
He also positioned himself as a central figure in the South-East’s eventual presidential quest, stressing his performance. “When the presidency comes to the South-East, I should be at the forefront because of my performance,” Umahi argued.
In response to detractors, Umahi issued a bold challenge: “I’ve asked for a debate with anybody who feels otherwise. I created something out of this state. God used me to do it.”
The Minister highlighted his legacy, stating, “We compare governor to governor, time to time, and compare what you have done for the South-East. I beat my chest and say ‘Listen, God has used me, President Tinubu has used me, to better the lot of the South-East.’”
Urging the region to embrace political pragmatism, he warned that the presidency cannot be attained through emotion. “We can’t get to the presidency by sentiment. We have to re-engage; we have to support other regions. And at the time of God, nobody will stop it,” he advised.
