The National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP) loyal to Julius Abure, Umar Farouk, has said that former presidential candidate Peter Obi has no plan to contest the 2027 election, despite his recent public remarks.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Farouk stated that Obi was only seeking public attention rather than preparing for another political race. He said, “Peter Obi is only enjoying media attention. He has refused the Labour Party’s presidential ticket.”
The party secretary also questioned Obi’s political commitment, saying there is confusion about his current political base. According to him, “Why is he in ADC? Why does he belong in PDP? In which political party does he belong?”
Farouk added that the former Anambra governor’s recent activities show a lack of genuine interest in contesting again.
He went further to describe the weakness of the opposition parties in Nigeria, arguing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) still has firm control of the political scene. “Even if the referee gives them penalties, some will still miss,” he said with a hint of sarcasm.
