Social media has been abuzz with criticism following Peter Obi’s recent statement alleging that the Federal Government prioritizes infrastructure development in Lagos, neglecting other regions. Obi claimed that this focus contributes to underdevelopment and poverty in other states.
Many Nigerians online have challenged this view, emphasizing that major Lagos projects, like the Lekki Deep Sea Port and Dangote Refinery, were not funded by the federal government. They noted that the Lekki Port was developed through a partnership between the Lagos State Government and private investors, while the Dangote Refinery’s port terminal was independently financed by Aliko Dangote.
Critics also pointed out that other states, such as Ondo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, are advancing their own port projects without federal support. They accused Obi of sidestepping his tenure as Anambra governor, where he allegedly failed to deliver significant infrastructure despite available funds. Commentators stressed that effective leadership, not federal bias, drives regional development.
