Investigative journalist and writer David Hundeyin has sparked widespread reactions online after describing Nigerian activists Aisha Yesufu and Yemi Adamolekun as “foreign puppets” allegedly involved in what he termed “CIA-backed revolutions” aimed at destabilizing African nations.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Hundeyin asserted that certain African activists are being manipulated by Western interests to “derail their country’s economic and geopolitical trajectory.”
“They’re not innocent. They’re useful idiots being used to derail their country’s economic and geopolitical trajectory and keep millions of their own compatriots in poverty,” he wrote.
Hundeyin further compared the current situation to potential unrest in Nigeria, arguing that some civic activists act under the influence of Western institutions.
“I would say the exact same thing if Peter Obi or Goodluck Jonathan were president and Nigeria were starting to boom again, then some NED-sponsored Yesufu and Adamolekun came out and started doing another CIA colour revolution in Abuja,” he added.
He concluded his post by emphasizing that national progress should not be sacrificed for what he described as “foreign puppetry.”
“It’s better for those few to die than for the future of millions of people to be sacrificed because those few people are either too greedy to resist foreign puppetry, or too stupid to recognise it,” Hundeyin stated.
The post has since generated heated debates across social media, with many users defending the activists’ record of civic engagement, while others echoed Hundeyin’s concerns about alleged foreign influence in African movements.
