Anambra State’s governorship election has reportedly been marred by vote-buying, as residents were seen receiving gifts in exchange for their votes. According to social media reports, sachets of Maltina and packs of Gala snacks are being distributed to voters, including adults and children, in exchange for their support.
A post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @nononsensezones stated, “We no dey vote Rubbish. People are currently getting paid with Gala and Malt for their VOTE.” The post included images showing the distribution of the drinks and snacks to locals at polling locations.
Election observers and residents have expressed concern over the practice, describing it as a serious threat to the credibility of the electoral process. Authorities are yet to comment on the reports of vote-buying.
