The Borno State Police Command has invited the chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) transition management committee in Borno State, Hon Ali Bukar Wurge, and the embattled state party chairman, Kaka Umara Bolori, over the deepening leadership crisis in the party.
The invitation followed a clash between rival groups within the party during the inauguration of an interim committee in Maiduguri earlier in the week.
According to party sources, Wurge and other key members of the transition committee were at the ADC secretariat along Galadima Junction / Abbaganaram road in Maiduguri on Friday, 16 January 2026, when a team of armed policemen arrived and informed them that their presence was needed at the state police headquarters.
The crisis started after the ADC national leadership reportedly set up a transition management committee to run the affairs of the party in Borno State ahead of the election of a substantive state executive council.
However, at the inauguration of the committee at a venue in Maiduguri metropolis last Monday, Bolori, who is recognised as the state chairman of the party, rejected the arrangement and openly opposed the composition of the interim body.
He and his supporters were said to have staged a protest against the committee led by Wurge, insisting he would not recognise its authority.
The situation later turned violent, leaving at least eleven party members and security personnel injured. Several vehicles belonging to party members were damaged and a police patrol vehicle was also vandalised during the disturbance.
Speaking to journalists at the ADC secretariat before he was invited by the police, Wurge insisted the incident was not a peaceful protest but a deliberate attempt to disrupt party activities and undermine internal democracy.
He accused suspected thugs of storming the venue of the inauguration, saying they attacked party members and destroyed eight vehicles and a police vehicle that was on duty at the scene.
Wurge also expressed sympathy for those who were injured, including police operatives deployed to the event. He said, “Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your wounds are our wounds.”
The interim committee chairman maintained that the transition body was properly set up by the national leadership of the ADC in line with the party constitution and internal guidelines. He stressed that the committee was ratified by the party’s national working committee and therefore had full authority to manage ADC affairs in Borno State.
Wurge said he was surprised that Bolori was threatening to go to court over the composition of the transition committee, noting that Bolori, as state chairman, was already listed as an automatic member of the body.
He appealed to all party stakeholders in Borno State to put aside their personal differences and focus on rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the door of the transition committee remains open to all aggrieved members who are willing to work for unity and to strengthen the ADC as a viable opposition platform in the state.
