The Kano State Government in northern Nigeria has denied an allegation that it tried to stop Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, from entering the state.
The claim was made by Alhaji Buba Galadima, described as a political associate of Kwankwaso, who alleged that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration wrote to the federal government of Nigeria to prevent the senator from travelling to Kano State.
In response, the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, rejected the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday, February 12, 2026. He described the claim as reckless and said it was intended to mislead the public and stir political tension.
Waiya said the Kano State Government did not write to the federal government of Nigeria or any authority to block Kwankwaso, adding that Kano State remains peaceful and that citizens’ constitutional rights, including freedom of movement and association, are protected.
The commissioner said the state administration is focused on governance, service delivery, and the welfare of residents, not political disputes. He also criticised the attempt to bring Nigeria’s federal authorities into local political narratives without proof.
The Kano State Government asked Galadima to provide credible evidence for his allegation or withdraw the statement, warning that public figures must consider the impact of misinformation. The government also reassured residents that it would remain committed to peace, unity, and democratic rights in the state.
