ABEOKUTA, NIGERIA — Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has highlighted the stabilization of Nigeria’s national currency, the naira, and ongoing infrastructure projects as positive developments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, she emphasized that predictable exchange rates are essential for economic growth and business planning.
“I think there is a lot going on positively. One is the stabilisation of the Naira. What that does is that people can predict how much money they will spend on imports and how much income they will get. So stabilisation of the Naira is a big one,” Obasanjo said.
She praised the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, noting its potential to reduce congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, improve transportation to southeastern Nigeria, and link the ports of Lagos and Calabar to stimulate commerce along the corridor.
Obasanjo also observed improvements in security, attributing them to stronger international cooperation and President Tinubu’s diplomatic engagements aimed at promoting trade and economic development.
As a former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, she expressed confidence in her qualifications to become Nigeria’s first female governor, citing the state’s history of female leadership and the role of political negotiations among the state’s senatorial districts in determining when the western district could produce a governor.
