Joe Igbokwe, a senior member of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, has said that activist Aisha Yesufu will soon come to understand the importance of political party structures in Nigeria’s political system.
Igbokwe made the comment while referring to Yesufu, who is associated with the African Democratic Congress, a political party in Nigeria.
In Nigeria’s political landscape, party structures refer to organised networks that operate from the national level down to the grassroots. These networks include party officials, campaign organisers, elected representatives, and supporters who help mobilise voters and maintain the influence of a political party.
Commenting on the issue through a post on Facebook, Igbokwe suggested that political realities would eventually make the importance of such structures clear to Yesufu.
He wrote: “Aisha Yesufu of ADC will soon understand clearly the meaning of STRUCTURES in Party politics.
“You do not need to tell deaf and dumb that war has started. When he sees others running he too will join them.”
Aisha Yesufu is widely known in Nigeria as a social and civic activist. She gained national and international recognition during the campaign demanding the rescue of schoolgirls abducted from Chibok in northeastern Nigeria in 2014.
Joe Igbokwe, a prominent political figure in Lagos State, frequently comments on political developments and party affairs within the All Progressives Congress.
His remarks come amid broader conversations about the role of political party organisation in Nigeria as politicians, activists, and parties prepare for future electoral contests.
