The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 rejected reports claiming that the Federal Government directed it to suspend enforcement actions linked to sachet alcohol and alcoholic products sold in 200 millilitre PET bottles.
In a statement signed by its Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency said it had not received any formal communication instructing it to stop its regulatory work on sachet alcohol products.
NAFDAC said its enforcement activities are carried out under its legal mandate and are guided by existing laws and regulatory frameworks, as well as properly communicated government directives.
The agency stressed that there was no official order at any time asking it to halt regulatory or enforcement action in relation to sachet alcohol products.
It also said decisions that affect national regulatory actions would be announced through official government channels. NAFDAC warned that unverified reports can create public anxiety, fuel economic uncertainty, and lead to misunderstanding of government policy.
The agency advised members of the public, industry stakeholders, and the media to ignore the report and rely on verified updates released through its official platforms and authorised government channels.
The clarification comes amid continued scrutiny of sachet alcohol products, which have been part of public health debates due to concerns about accessibility and abuse, especially among young people. NAFDAC said it remains committed to protecting public health, supporting economic stability, and acting in the national interest.
