The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Garba Haruna with fake dollars note around Computer Village, in the Ikeja area of the state.
In a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said Haruna is a suspected counterfeiter.
Hundeyin confirmed that he was arrested when his victim raised alarm on accidentally sighting him close to the same place he had been swindled engaging another customer.
He confirmed that the suspect confessed to committing the crime after he was arrested by the police.
Hundeyin said, “The Rapid Response Squad unit of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious currency counterfeiter who specialised in duping unsuspecting members of the public within Computer Village in Ikeja area of Lagos metropolis.
“The suspect, Haruna Garba, 38 years old, was arrested after a victim he had duped in August 2022, raised the alarm after unexpectedly sighting him again, dubiously engaging a customer, close to the same place he had been swindled.”
“Preliminary investigation indicated that Garba, who was found with fake $700, has been in the fraudulent business of fake currencies for over three years after he was tutored by his late master.
The PPRO stated that the suspect had been transferred to the state headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
Hundeyin said, “The Commander, RRS, CSP, Saheed Egbeyemi, has in line with the directive of the commissioner of police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, transferred the suspect and exhibits to the State Headquarters for further investigation and eventual prosecution.
