The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, on Thursday, inaugurated a judicial commission of enquiry to investigate some of the actions taken by the immediate past administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal while in office.
The commission is tasked with investigating the sales, auction, and allocations of government assets during the tenure of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Retired Justice Mu’azu Bindiga, the former acting Chief Judge of Gombe state, was appointed as the Chairman of the commission, with Nasiru Binji, a lawyer, serving as its Secretary.
Other members of the commission include Jecob Ochidi, Ibrahim Dingyadi, Usman Abubakar, and Lema Sambo.
During the inauguration, Governor Aliyu emphasized his commitment to transparency and fair dealings in his administration.
Aliyu specified that the commission would scrutinize land allocations, sales, and auctions of government houses, official vehicles, plants and machineries, and other related assets.
Mr. Aliyu stated, “I made a pledge during my campaign and inauguration as elected governor that my administration would ensure justice and accountability in all dealings.
“I acted on the grievances expressed by people of Sokoto state on the suspicious nature of dealings with government belongings, and lawful powers conferred on me as a Governor to checkmate excesses,.”
The governor highlighted the transparency of the selection process for commission members, adding that the chairman, coming from Gombe, would provide an unbiased perspective due to their lack of affiliations or familiarity with the state’s governance.
Justice Bindiga, speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony, affirmed that the commission would strictly adhere to the law and be guided by the constitution and its stipulated mandates.
Bindiga explained that their mandate encompasses assessing the quantity and value of assets, examining sales and generated revenues, as well as determining the whereabouts of these assets within the designated two-month period.
