Enugu Air, the commercial airline owned by Enugu State, is poised to begin its official flight operations on Monday, July 7, 2025. The official launch event will be held at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, with the attendance of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside other notable officials and stakeholders, as disclosed by the airline’s management.
According to Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transportation in Enugu State, Enugu Air represents a cornerstone of Governor Peter Mbah’s strategic plan to modernize transportation infrastructure in the state. The airline is envisioned as a catalyst for positioning Enugu as a central aviation hub within Nigeria.
The airline’s fleet will initially consist of three Embraer jets from the E170 and E190 series. These aircraft were selected for their superior performance and passenger comfort, making them ideal for regional flights.
Enugu Air’s inaugural flight routes will establish a triangular connection between Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos. Future expansion plans include extending services to other major Nigerian cities such as Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano, as well as exploring opportunities for international routes.
Dr. Ozor remarked, “With a strong foundation built on innovation and sustainability, Enugu Air is poised to transform regional air travel, boost state pride, and raise Enugu’s profile nationally and globally.” This highlights the airline’s ambition to elevate Enugu’s status in the aviation sector while fostering economic growth.
The airline’s launch is expected to positively impact Nigeria’s aviation industry by offering more travel choices and encouraging regional development.
With its modern fleet and strategic route network, Enugu Air aims to revolutionize air travel in Nigeria and establish Enugu as a prominent aviation center.
